Mon, Wed, Fri mornings at 6am are strength and conditioning with Crossfit Games Champion, 4th degree TKD black belt and physiotherapist Robbie MacDonald from Nova Physiotherapy.
Tues, Thurs and Sat mornings are fasted cardio (cardio before breakfast) for 60minutes.
Mon, Wed and Fri evenings is MMA at 5pm and BJJ at 6pm. Tues, Thurs and Saturdays is Muay Thai at 5pm. Sundays is off.
2200-2400 calories with no carbs after 3pm no fats before, never mixing carbs and fats. No refined or white carbs, 1.7g of protein per kg of body weight.
When and why did you get started?
My first pro fight was on September 15, 2007. I have always wanted to fight MMA since the first time I saw a video (around age 15). I started fighting MMA at a very overweight 205lbs (cutting from 245) and have continued to drop since.
How long do you train for and is it daily?
4-5 hours daily split in two-a-days, 6 days a week
What would be your biggest dream to be able to achieve?
To fight in the UFC and own self-sufficient businesses and be financially free.
Do you ever struggle to stick to your diet and eat lots of junk food?
I used to but not so much anymore. Biggest vices are Subway, sushi and Cold Stone Ice Cream.
Allot of us out there love a good drink of alcohol from time to time, do you ever drink, if so how often?
I like to drink but always stay sober 4-5 weeks before a fight. Zero alcohol.
Do you take supplements and if so what?
I take the full line of Nutrabolics products including Anabolic State BCAAs, Isobolic Protein, Swollen for a pre-workout, Vitabolic which is a full multivitamin, Thermal XTC for a fat burner and Fighter’s Food a few weeks before a fight because of the high waxy maize content. I also sometimes use Wazybolic during my long MMA sessions. I also absolutely love Quest protein bars. Sushi and Subway! By far.
If you could pick only 3 different body parts to put on your body from 3 famous people, what would they be and why?
I struggle with a six pack (by struggle I mean I don’t have one at the moment lol). I have big arms and legs but would like a larger chest, back and shoulders. Don’t know who the famous people would be but those are the parts.
Who do you look up to these days and why?
I look up to anyone who works hard, comes from nothing and achieves greatness. I believe that with positive visualization and hard work you can achieve anything. You have to believe in yourself before anyone else does.
