When and why did you get started?
I started training at 13 years old. My dad had a building company and I just wanted to be strong and lift things easy. I saw the Arnold and sly films, Grew up watching the A-Team and just wanted to be strong like the stars when I was a kid.
Will you always strive to get stronger or at some point just try to maintain?
I think as a bodybuilder, We always strive to be the best at whatever we do. If it wasn’t building muscle and lifting weights, it would be whatever we are into. I put 100% into everything I do, work and life. Maintaining to me is about achieving.
Have you done any competitions or plan to?
I have done loads of competitions, and I plan to do some more. For a bodybuilder, its one of the ways of showing your work. The stage is the exhibition for the artists in bodybuilding.
What would be your biggest dream to be able to achieve?
Obviously as a bodybuilder, I would love to achieve the dream of being a Mr Olympia competitor. But the biggest achievement for my realistic personal self would be, to be able to look after the people I love.
Do you ever struggle to stick to your diet and eat lots of junk food?
I do love some nice treats to eat. But to be honest, we were brought up on very basic meat and veg type food. So I love what I eat, and its just an added benefit that its like a clean diet. And I know what it takes to maintain and achieve muscle. And the only way to do that is to eat what your supposed to. Or I will stop growing. And I really don’t want that.
Allot of us out there love a good drink of alcohol from time to time, do you ever drink, if so how often?
I never drink. Ive never been into drinking and that probably why. None of my family do either really. So it was never a part of my life. So that’s why I never drink.
If you could pick only one supplement what would it be? (Not protein as you can get that from foods easily)
BCAA’s, I love using these. The Garnell ones are a 3, 1.5,1.5 ratio. Which mean they have a high Leucine content. These help me from loosing muscle. Which when you train as intense as us, is very important.
Your favourite food?
Steak or slow cooked balde of beef with mash. The Radcliffe Arms in Hitchin does the best Al’a carte food, This is where I spend all my free time.
If you could pick only 3 different body parts to put on your body from 3 famous people, what would they be and why?
I wouldn’t really want any body parts really. Im happy the way I am. I really would have no idea. Good question though.
Who do you look up to these days and why?
I look up to anyone with a genuine smile. Because they make me smile.
Your favourite quote?
“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
- George Eliot
