Many people might know you are married to MMA fighter Rich Franklin, but within this interview we are not going to ask you any questions about that as I have seen in lots of other interviews you have been asked a lot of questions to do with your relationship with Rich.
What do you do to stay in shape?
I do weight training 2 days a week, cardio 4 days a week and I stick to a strict nutrition plan when I am getting ready to compete.
Outside of competing, I have my Masters degree in Secondary Education and I started teaching high school English when I was just 21 yrs old. I taught for 9 years. I am also proud to say I was featured on the cover of Authority MMA & Lifestyle Magazine 2010 Issue VIII. In terms of competing, my accomplishments are (in order of most recent first):
~3rd place ~2011 NPC Hoosier Muscle Classic in bikini
~4th place ~ 2011 NPC Indianapolis in bikini
~2nd place ~ 2011 NPC Cincinnati in bikini
~5th place ~ 2011 NPC Northern KY in bikini
Who do you look up to?
I would say I look up to my parents most of all. They have molded me into the person I am today. They taught me many valuable lessons and instilled morals and values in me that I hope to teach to my children one day. They taught me to never give up and that I am capable of anything I set my mind to. They also taught me that MY best is always good enough.
Lots of great photos of you, but what is your best photo of yourself and why?
Gosh- I am not sure I have a “best” photo. I prefer pictures of me when I am smiling because that is when I feel the most natural. When I started modelling, my photographers often tried getting me to give them a serious look and for some reason those pictures are much harder for me.
Do you eat any of what people call junk food? If so how often?
Yes- I definitely eat junk food!! I actually used to eat bad all the time. I had eggo waffles for breakfast, cereal for lunch, and pizza for dinner. That was before I hit 30 and realized I couldn’t eat that way forever. I am blessed to have a high metabolism so I never gained weight eating that way, but I know it would have caught up with me in other ways eventually. I eat “junk food” about 2 times a week: once mid-week and one day on the weekend.
Do you drink alcohol? If so how often?
I have actually never even tried an alcoholic drink. My husband hasn’t either so for our wedding we toasted with sparkling apple cider.
What would an example be of your diet you eat day to day?
- Meal 1-oatmeal, blueberries and egg whites.
- Meal 2- protein shake.
- Meal 3- lean ground beef and half of a baked potato.
- Meal 4- protein shake.
- Meal 5- chicken and broccoli.
- Meal 6- egg whites and almonds.
If you could pick only 3 different body parts to put on your body from 3 other people, what would they be and why?
I have no idea. I don’t usually wish for other people’s bodies…but I would love to have more muscular legs. It is very hard to get muscle to show up in legs on a person who is 5’11”!! The muscles are so long that development is extremely difficult!
What is your main goal in life?
Honestly my main goal is to be a mom. It is all I have ever wanted and I pray that God will bless me with children one day.
Is there anything you would change in your life if you could go back in time?
I wish I would have known more about nutrition and exercise at a younger age. I got caught up in pretty bad habits in terms of eating and I NEVER worked out a day in my life until after college so I just wonder how much better shape I would be in if I started sooner.
